Well we're already well into May so a bit late with a round-up of the action from April.
The month kicked off with our Godson Mikey's birthday, so we popped over to see the little man and take some pressies (and a few snaps). I particularly liked this one of him looking at his reflection in the silver paper;
The following weekend we popped down to Wales for a much belated Christmas dinner with Mrs A.
As usual, mobile phone pictures also play a part this month with my alliteratively titled "No Shortage of New Shirtage" and also "Halt or I Fire" below;
Driving home from work mid-April I spotted a field of yellow off to the side of the road, so I turned round and headed up the hill to get a few shots of the field. The sky overhead turned quite angry and made for quite a contrast. There are a number of shots from here, but one of my favourites is this one...
These turned out to be the last pictures taken with my old faithful Canon Powershot G10 as I decided to replace it over Easter with the new Panasonic Lumix TZ-60 - and I'm really pleased that I did.
For those that are interested, it has a massive 30x optical zoom giving the equivalent of 24-720mm which is huge - and unheard of in DSLR terms. The camera shoots in Raw format (which gives highest image quality) as well as having Aperture and Shutter priority modes.
Of course it comes with the Program mode and usual array of scene modes for those that like using that functionality and, for the purist, it also has an electronic viewfinder - not relying on the LCD screen which can become unreadable in bright light. So far I've been amazed by what it can do. I shot the local village Show this weekend using it (rather than the DSLR) and am very happy with the quality.
To give you an idea of the zoom distance, here's a scruffy shot of our back garden...
To the left of the washing line, you can see a bird table hanging by chains from the roof of the shed. Well we have some fat collared doves that like to sit on there when they can, and here's a shot of said bird on the bird table...
Incredibly, this is hand held at 1/50 of a second at 720mm through the kitchen window.
Plenty of other stuff for you to see too, so click here for the full gallery.
May is going to be one heck of a month - with photos and EU Elections. Already I've had a trip to London and the aforementioned shooting of the Surrey Heath Show - I feel tired already!
Til next month
