So, we’ve made it to the end of another year. For me, the end of a record year of work (and it feels like it), with 2401 hours charged which is more than I’ve ever done before. Along with my local political activities, this has really taken a toll on my photography, particularly with the DSLR, although on the positive side it has forced me down the mobile phone route and I’ve discovered some fabulous apps for Android smartphones and taken some really nice images as a result. I’ll be writing a separate piece on Apps soon.
Travel-wise, we had a dull and wet holiday in Mallorca in mid-summer and I also had three trips to the Middle East with work (Riyadh and Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain) so these provided some opportunities for photos in new surroundings.
Big events for me this year were being selected for the Splash of Colour Exhibition and having two blog articles written about me on the TPA web site – one about my photos of the Nokia building in Farnborough, and one of my entries for the Splash of Colour exhibition - fame at last!
I’ve also been involved with the local residents network; taking photos and recording podcast interviews around events that took place locally. In recent weeks Vicky has also got involved with her video camera, recording me interviewing the local Panto cast from Camberley Theatre, and recording the Michael Buble and Frank Sinatra tribute acts that performed as part of the #LoveCamberley Christmas lights switch-on.
So, what about 2014 . . .
Well, I've been accepted into another photo exhibition which starts touring in February called the Four Elements - this exhibition and others (including Splash of Colour) will be visiting the following towns in the New Year; Ascot, Birmingham, Bristol, Camberley, Chester, Harrow, Greenford, Leeds, London W1, London N19, Maidenhead, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Peterborough, Portsmouth, Reading, Solihull, Stockport and Uxbridge.
Entry is free, but the exhibitions will only be in each town for a week so check the listing to see details.
Vicky and I are hoping to produce more content for the Surrey Heath Residents network, especially as the Farnborough Airshow comes to town this summer - we're hoping to get Press Passes for exclusive access to people and planes!
Inspired by Vicky's video work, I think I might try my hand at a bit of video and see what I can do. We're also all really excited to be visiting LA in the summer!
Other than that, we'll all have to wait and see. If you want to keep up with what I'm doing you can find me on . . .
and my new on-line photo magazine PhotoSnapShots on Flipboard.
Whatever your plans for 2014, I'd like to wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
